David Alan Kviz, 58, of Reedsburg, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at UW Hospital.
He was born Sept. 5, 1955 in Madison, the son of Robert and Eulalie Nicholson Kviz. David was united in marriage to Debra Deck on Aug. 13, 2011 in Baraboo.
David retired from the U.S. Navy, where he served as a sonar technician on the U.S.S. Snook, the U.S.S. Whale, and the U.S.S. Greenling, from which he retired from service. He received the Good Conduct Medal, three Sea Service Deployment ribbons and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. He assisted in the U.S. Navy Sonar School, located in Groten, Conn. and taught naval students.
David was an avid hockey player beginning at Madison West High School and continuing with the Southside Hockey Club. He also loved to play golf.
David is survived by his wife, Debra of Reedsburg; mother, Eulalia Kviz of Blue River; a brother, Greg Kviz of Fort Atkinson; two sisters, Karen Kviz of Fort Atkinson, Becki Kviz of Blue River; nieces, Dashari (Cory) Hanson of Marquette, Iowa, Emmalie Copeland of Eau Claire, Samantha Kviz of Racine; a nephew: Alan Simpson of Fort Atkinson; great-nieces, Summer Copeland, Jasmine Foster, Courtney Simpson; great-nephew, Brayden Foster and extended family, in-laws and special friends, Ken and Renee Wankrel.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert in 2013; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family extends a big thank you to the doctors and staff of UW.of Madison Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the American Legion Post, 609 Wisconsin Avenue, Wisconsin Dells.
