John Di Filippo ETC(SS) 1960 - 1961

Then 1959 Now - 2009
I was surprised to see my name included in the list of shipmates who served aboard SNOOK because I served only in the pre-commissioning detail but the experience that I gained contributed to my very successful future endeavors among them being appointed to Acting R-4 Division Officer on Sub Tender GILMORE  during a FRAM overhaul. I retired from the Navy in 1963 after serving 22 years of active duty (broken service). I then started into a second career with the Federal Government where I attained the position of Supervisory Engineer GS-14 and was involved as a Project Coordinator on various Electrical/Electronic projects aboard submarines, mostly SSBNs. Prior to WWII when I entered the Navy, I served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1938 -1941. I will be 89 years of age on 8 October, 2009 and I am a resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) formerly known as The Old Soldiers Home.
